Hello, my name is Arthur op den Brouw. I like to take calculated risks and bump into things. (That’s me on the left) My mission is to help businesses increase their performance by tuning into the place where brand and people meet. How may I help you?
They say names are significant. And yet somehow I’ve always feel slightly disconnected from mine. Perhaps it’s because my brother’s name was so much more exotic. I mean to say… Harmen Eduardus Leonardus op den Brouw. Isn’t that curious? Comes of the Spanish/Dutch thing. Well… there is a story behind mine too, and so I guess that’s who I am:- the son of sea-faring and working class families from Amsterdam and Haarlem. I was born and spent the first 29 years in Melbourne Australia and was always fascinated by my European heritage. After completing a fine art / teaching degree and teaching for a few years, in 1986 I travelled and settled in England with my wife Lee to kick off a career as artist, brand consultant and entrepreneur.
Until recently I was Joint MD of leading brand consultancy Designation in Reading Berkshire. For over 10 years we focused on delivering creative and new media communication services to the medium sized professional sector. Sensing the right time to move on, in early 2009 I decided to set up Brand New Direction a business focused on affordable brand consultancy for small businesses, the arts and education.
I also want to share the story of how branding is a powerful method for achieving clarity of purpose and successful differentiation. My view is that branding is not rocket science. It’s deep within everyone’s psyche, and there are universal principles which can be easily learned and practiced to achieve extraordinary results. I believe these principles are at the core of our being and function best when our creative and analytical minds are in a balanced or congruent state. They are universal in so far that they can be applied to any process or activity, but are especially useful when applied to improved performance and skills development.
